For about two years, while all the competitors introduced l’audio lossless, Spotify has consistently delayed the rollout of the feature. The Swedish streaming giant has promised the mysterious arrival of Spotify HiFi, which at a certain point had seemed more like a mirage than a reality. Well the wait may be over.
As reported by the insider Chris Messina on Threads, Spotify is about to launch Superpremium, a new subscription level that will include lossless listening. According to Messina the season ticket will cost 19,99$ and will arrive soon in the United States.
What is lossless audio on Spotify?
Lossless audio means the ability to listen to songs in 24-bit, without data loss. In essence it is one superior audio quality, already introduced for years on Apple Music, Amazon Music, Tidal and similar platforms. On Apple Music, for example, which does not include free plans, lossless audio is included in the standard subscription at no additional cost.
Spotify began to theorize the launch of the lossless mode (called Spotify HiFi) in 2021, without this ever actually arriving. Now Spotify Superpremium seems to definitively take the place of HiFi.
What we know about Spotify Superpremium
In addition to 24-bit lossless audio, the new subscription will include up to 30 free hours of listening to audiobooks and new playlist features.
At the moment we don’t know when Spotify Superpremium will arrive in Italy, but we can expect a launch soon at a cost of €19.99 per month.
