Unlock outpost creation | Starfield: How to Build an Outpost
Before you start creating outposts on every planet you come across, it is obviously necessary unlock the mechanics. Fortunately, however, you can simply access this feature at the beginning of your adventure delivering the artifact to Constellation. Once you have unlocked the mechanic, simply go to the point you prefer on a planet, take out your scanner and press the “ buttonX” (or “R” on PC) to place a outpost lighthouse.
But remember that there are some places where it is not possible to create an outpost. For example, it is not possible to start building a base if you are too close to city limits. Also, until you have upgraded the related ability enough, you will not be able to settle on planets with adverse atmospheric conditions.
Finding the right place | Starfield: How to Build an Outpost
Obviously the planets richest in resources are the best on which to build outposts, but before settling on a planet it is important take some factors into consideration. First of all you have to take into account the distance from your home. In fact, by building an outpost on a planet that is too far away you may be forced to create connections that are too expensive and complex. Also if possible at the beginning it is always better to avoid planets with too extreme atmospheric conditions, as they can have very annoying harmful effects on your PC.
In general we therefore advise you to think very carefully about where to build an outpost. Specifically it is important to try to settle on planets that have multiple resources oppure in systems that boast a large number of rare resources within them.
Laying the first stone | Starfield: How to Build an Outpost
Once you have found the right place for your outpost, the time has finally come to start create structures. The main purpose of these places is the extraction of resources and therefore first of all dyou will have to build a resource extractor and a power source. Then for sure you will also want to create some structure capable of storing the collected materials.
However, if you want, you can also create a Transfer Container which will allow you to collect resources directly from your ship. Once the container is built you will have to place a output link from your resource extractor to the container, so that the materials are automatically deposited there. Subsequently from the screen of cargo of your ship you will be able to directly access all the containers of the outpost.

- First, build a cargo link in the outpost you want to send the resources from and one in the one you want to send them to
- Interact with the control panel of your resource extractor or the container that contains them and create an output link that leads to the cargo link
- Go to the outpost that is to receive the resources, interact with the cargo link control panel and select the outpost from which to receive the resources
