It’s been about ten years since Razer released its first laptop, and since then all devices that have come onto the market have been equipped – only and only – with Windows. Now, however, the situation appears to be destined to change. The society Lambdain fact, it is loading Ubuntu on a “rigged” version of the Razer Blade 15 Advanced, with the full approval of the manufacturing company. The target? Try to sell the laptop to AI and machine learning experts.
Razer: A Linux laptop is finally available
Today we introduce you Razer x Lambda Tensorbook, the company’s first Linux laptop. A revised version of last year’s Razer Blade 15 Advanced, with which it shares many technical features. In fact, the device has a 11th Generation Intel Core i7 CPUan Nvidia RTX 3080 Max-Q graphics card and 64 GB in RAM under a 15.6-inch 165Hz 1440p display. All powered by an 80 Wh battery, enclosed in a body with the same shape and size as last year’s Razer laptop. Indeed, the Tensorbook also has the same fast I / O. Including two Thunderbolt 4 ports, three USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, a UHS-III SD card reader and Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.
Unlike the Razer Blade 15 Advanced though, the Tensorbook is argento instead of black. And it already comes pre-installed with “the latest drivers and machine learning tools including PyTorch, Tensorflow, CUDA and cuDNN“. In addition, by paying an amount of about 4000 dollars it will also be possible to take advantage of its own premium support team for the correct use of the laptop. With this offer, therefore, Lambda aims at a rather high range of buyers, trying to conquer all those who are oriented towards the MacBook Pro – and not just because of the silver color -. Not surprisingly, the main hardware comparison that the company proposes is a 4-fold increase in speed compared to Apple’s 16-inch MacBook Pro M1 Max when running TensorFlow.
This is just a first step in Razer’s approach to Linux. Considering the Tensorbook, in fact, we could also expect that the company will soon decide to integrate it, so as to be able to offer an interesting proposal to a wider range of buyers.
