We begin our selection of indie video games for the month of May with the production launched by the publisher Wired Productions and by the developer Luminawesome Games Ltd. Last month the lively puzzle platform Lumote: The Mastermote Chronicles for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One. Let’s find out more about this novelty in our test on Steam.

Lumote: The Mastermote Chronicles accompanies us in a story that accompanies us through the Great Depths, an underwater world full of Motes, bioluminescent creatures that spend their lives deep in the Bioverse. These beings live based on the rhythms of a landscape with very special fluorescent colors, like our protagonist. Lumote is in fact a different Mote from the others, curious, and with an “eye” that allows him to have the necessary powers to leave for his mission. In fact, when the Great Depths turn red, Lumote has to bring back the world it lives in in its classic color, the blue. To do so, however, Lumote must learn to take control of the inhabitants of the Great Depths and solve the puzzles that await him in order to defeat the greatest Mote of all, the Mastermote.

Set in a 3D world full of puzzles and adventures, the level design is logical and easy to understand for gameplay purposes. Not least the soundtrack and the musical effects, as music is essential to inform us of the key moments and emotional states of Lumote.

A title that not only knows how to involve us for its own essential gameplay and for its original and soft aesthetic compartment, but also in educational perspective. The message that Lumote: The Mastermote Chronicles wants to convey is precisely aimed at explaining what happens when the waters of the seas are polluted. An action and commitment that also developed with Lumote: Illuminated, a series of documentaries available on Wired Live. So how to miss such an engaging and exciting title?

    2. Goodbyeworld Games – Before Your Eyes

Goodbyeworld Games and Skybound Games recently celebrated the BAFTA Award Winning with their title, Before Your Eyes. It is a title from the first person narrative and with an innovative design, which also allowed him to obtain a nomination for the Webby Award for the best technical result. Let’s find out together, therefore, this title, selected among the indie video games of May some first contents and details.

It is a’emotional and first person narrative adventure where we can control history and influence its results, even if they are not always able to change the paths of our history. With this technique, however, we can fully immerse ourselves in a world of memories, both joyful and heartbreaking, while our whole life flows before our eyes.

Before Your Eyes racconta la story of the soul’s journey into the afterlife using a new and innovative form of interaction. The game also uses the webcam to immerse yourself in this story in a way hardly experienced before. We will have to learn to control the flow of the narrative with our eyes, through precious family memories, first love and the rise of an artistic career. But soon the ferryman will suspect that we are not showing him everything he needs to see. So he immerses us in dark recesses of our memories more repressed, eventually revealing a heartbreaking truth. Are you ready to embark on this story?

    3. Rendlike – FixFox

We talked about it in the our previewand now back with the test on PC of the final version of Fixfox. This is the new adventure developed by Rendlike with the help of Joystick Ventures, able to take us this time into the depths of space. Let’s find out in detail how it went.

Vix, an unfortunate space mechanic, crashed into a mysterious planet where the use of tools is prohibited. Accompanied by his name toolbox Tinthe two travel through the Caramel piano discovering the hidden stash left by the pirates.

If we had already taken a look previously at the plot of the title in question, now we can delve into the gameplay dynamics and the game engine. FixFox is a sci-fi adventure game where we have to cross the planet on a scooter, in a style that is halfway between action and exploration. There is no shortage of minigames either to repair objects with the few makeshift tools we have available, as far as the pace is slow enough and with repetitions. Let’s consider that the initial tutorial, between extensions and perhaps forced dialogues.

In addition, repairs and wanderings through the scenario in search of something useful will be an integral part of the gameplay. We will also be able to interact with NPCs and chat. This exchange also allows our good Vix to take a break with a snack, often revealing a pile of objects. It all contributes to rendering of a relaxed atmosphere, one of the strengths of FixFox. which presents aparticular attention to the narrative sector, while the artistic one was perhaps elementary at times. In general, however, if you want to get your hands on an enjoyable and pleasant title, not too adrenaline, FixFox is the one for you.

    4. Balancing Monkey Games – Before We Leave

Team17 e Balancing Monkey Games have launched the new sci-fi city builder, titled Before We Leave, which we tested in versione per PlayStation 5. Let’s find out together what we have seen in this adventure, which we anticipate in the indie special in May and seems to have some flaws and small dissatisfactions.

Set in six unique biomes, Before We Leave sees players nurture groups of global disaster survivors as they strive to rebuild a thriving civilization. We must ensure that our fellow citizens have something to survive and discover the world around them, exploring it starting from a first tutorial. This proves to be very rich in information and with several objectives to be achieved. L’target it is therefore the colonization of the surrounding spaceup to a spaceship that will take us to conquer the world beyond the planet.

In this game, we live an ‘adventure in the absence of actual dangers, also in this case making the general atmosphere relaxed and pleasant, also reflected by the graphic style. A tranquility also dictated by the overall economic system, very simplified for this kind of game, and perhaps not too much in line with the expectations of city builder lovers.

Overall, there is required to retrieve a space rocket as well, after having grown the buildings on this planet and on the various islands. When we have to repair this vehicle, we can go beyond the earth’s atmosphere and discover the reason for the catastrophe that occurred some time before, without losing sight of the pollution and scientific development, which can allow us access to production buildings. .

But Before We Leave is also a title with a slow progression and without really challenging elements, distancing it from its genre and relying only on the building element and with a writing that is not very articulated and without particular weight. Overall, the matches are pretty much the same, and only the scenarios try to make the complex less monotonous.

    5. Tate Multimedia – Kao The Kangaroo

In conclusion to our indie video game indie special in May, we also tested the Demo version of Kao The Kangaroo on Steam, arriving on May 27th. Here’s what we previewed in this Tate title …
