The digital legacy arrives on the iPhone with iOS 15.2
The update becomes downloadable from 14 December iOS 15.2, which brings a lot of news to the iPhone world. Including one that Apple had already announced at the presentation of the new iOS 15 operating system: the digital legacy. This is the ability to allow access to your data saved on your iCloud account after your death. A real testament to the data saved online: Photo, video, contacts, note, app and all account information.
A feature that arrives on all Apple devices. Indeed even on iPad 15.2 come on macOS 12.1 you can activate digital legacy, in a very simple way. You just have to:
- Going up Settings
- Select your name to access your account (on Mac do System Preferences and then Apple ID)
- To choose Password e Safety
- To select Contact Heir.
At this point, you can choose from your contacts the person who will have the keys to your account. The person will receive a QR code, which will only activate after our death. Indeed Apple will ask for legal proof, such as a certificate of death, in order to allow access.
When sign-in has been proven, the heir contact receives a special Apple ID to set up to log into your account. The deceased person’s Apple ID and password will stop working: from that moment on, it will be able to access only the heir. But he can only do it for the following three years: after this period, the data will be deleted. This however does not change inaccessibility to physical devices: Without an unlock code, you cannot access iPhone and Mac. But you will have all the data saved in the cloud.
A measure which we always hope not to have to resort to, but which allows the relatives and friends of a deceased person to collect photos, thoughts, memories of the missing person.
