The exciting sixth qualifying round of the Nordic Game Discovery Contest took place this week. Three selected Game Studios competed in the online pitch battle but, in the end, it was Funky Dango to convince the judges with There You Are. Let’s find out all the details about the game.
There You Are: Su’s mourning
There You Are it’s a’exploratory narrative experience on how to get away from the past and accept the loss. Its graphic design is inspired by stop-motion and offers players two endings, the result of their choices and actions.
The title plunges into the mourning theme through the story of a young girl, its. There You Are will allow us to discover what happened to the protagonist’s family and will allow us to explore the relationship between the young girl and her father as they try to move on and accept the past and the loss of their mother.
Many games already deal with this type of topic in a certain way but There You Are uses both storytelling methods that game design principles to process with care every single step history and offer the audience a bittersweet and emotional story.
Started from a project by thesis on unresolved pain by one of the developers, the title was created with the idea that in life the loss of loved ones is inevitable. Those who can remember the first encounter with death know what childhood experiences can be scary e lonely. If handled with affection, understanding and care, our first experience with death can be an opportunity for learn to live and die.
Rong Deng, the founder of Funky Dango, revealed:
Having qualified for the Nordic Game was a pleasant surprise! It was great luck for us to be selected to participate in the Nordic Game Discovery Contest. We are so grateful that we had the opportunity to show our game to the editors and get comments and feedback directly from them. Nordic Game provides us, indie developers, with a channel to discuss and learn from each other. We cannot express how grateful we are.
The player has the opportunity to decide the fate of the story and get one of two different endings based on his choices and actions over the course of the game. At the moment the title is free and can be downloaded through the official site. In the coming months, however, it will also arrive on PC tramite Steam.
