About six months after its launch in the United States, Meta announced the availability of Threads also in Europe (and consequently in Italy).
European users can now connect their Instagram profile and log in from the web (on the Theads website) or app and participate in the community of Instagram’s text-based spin-off.
What is Threads?
Instagram Threads is essentially the Twitter of Meta. There is probably no quicker and more understandable way to describe the social network in question. Also because it is evident that it was born with the aim of taking the place of the little blue bird, taking advantage of a period of crisis that has lasted for years and which reached its peak with the acquisition and management of Elon Musk.
The big advantage of Threads, however, is that you don’t need to create an account to use it. The new social network is in fact a sort of expansion of Instagram, and users registered on the Meta photographic social network can connect the two platforms, logging in with the same account. We could say that if Instagram is the place where you share photos and videos, Threads is the place where you post thoughts and opinions.
Why is Threads arriving in Italy only today?
So far Threads has not arrived in Europe for privacy issues. In fact, for Threads to comply with EU regulations, the social network would have had to offer users in the region one App view-only mode (a feature not included in the first version of the platform). View-only mode means that, to enjoy the content, users would not be forced to create a profile.
A problem largely solved, as officially confirmed by Meta today. In a press release from the company we read:
“People in the EU can choose to create a Threads profile linked to their Instagram account, meaning they will have the same experience as everyone else in the world, or to use Threads without a profile. Those who use Threads without a profile will be able to see content on Threads, search for profiles, share content via links or from the platform and report Threads content, but will not be able to interact with the content.”
Meanwhile, staying at Meta, Instagram has introduced looping videos in Notes.
