Accompanying the news of the availability for developers of Unreal Engine 5 There was also a special announcement from Crystal Dynamics, the software house that deals with the franchise of Tomb Raider. The next game in the series is currently in development with Unreal Engine 5, the studio confirmed, although work has just begun.
Tomb Raider: The next chapter will be in Unreal Engine 5
The last Tomb Raider game to take the spotlight was Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 2018, which was developed by the western studio of Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal. The software house has been at the helm of the franchise since the 2013 reboot, which then gave rise to the new saga starring Lara Croft that continues to this day.
Crystal Dynamics’ most recent project dates back to 2020, when the studio released Marvel’s Avengers, which, as we know, has not been fully appreciated by the public or by industry critics. The team is also helping the study Xbox The Initiative in developing a Perfect Dark reboot, which will in turn use Unreal Engine 5.
Many other Xbox teams are also using Unreal Engine 5, including State of Decay developer Undead Labs, developer of Gears The Coalition, and San Francisco-based Double Fine Productions. Some PlayStation Studios teams also use Unreal Engine 5, including Sony’s recently acquired Haven Studios.
