July it’s now over and let’s get into the heart of summer: we say goodbye to August 2023 and the best video games coming out of the month (which are so many)!

For new arrivals we can only start with Baldur’s Gate III, fantasy RPG that we have been looking forward to. The story begins really badly (and also in a slightly disgusting way): the land of Faerûn has been invaded by Mindflayers, a humanoid species endowed with incredible mental powers, who in order to subjugate the inhabitants inject parasites capable of transforming them into new Mindflayers. The protagonist is among the victims: together with other unfortunate characters she will have to find a way to remove the parasite in time and, possibly, thwart the Mindflayer invasion.

Let’s continue with Atlas Fallen, a third-person RPG set in a deadly desert land. In a world on the brink of collapse, warriors of extraordinary skill are called upon to defend caravans and compatriots in need, eliminating fearsome monsters that arrive without warning from the sands. Build your own hero or heroine, and get ready to slay terrifying beasts. Also coming Fort Solis, horror title that follows the misadventures of engineer Jack Leary, who arrived at the Fort Solis base on Mars following an emergency call. What seemed like a normal maintenance operation turns out to be the beginning of a dark and claustrophobic horror.

Among the best video games of August 2023 we point out Blasphemous 2: In this sequel we will accompany the Penitent through a mysterious land full of nightmares and dangers. The title is again based on a hack’n slash style and complex platforming elements, proposing an ultra-dynamic fighting style and a characteristic pixel art style. If the first title was already a good challenge, what will await us with this sequel?

Finally, we finish the arrivals with the latest work of Quantic Dream: Under the Waves is a breathtakingly beautiful underwater adventure that will captivate you with its vivid depiction of the seabed and complex storyline. Under the Waves is a story of ecology and the natural cycle, but also of growth and self-acceptance: the protagonist Stan, alone in the silence of the abyss, will have to come to terms with some pains from the past.

For the column “welcome returns” in August 2023 he returns Stray with its feline protagonist. Stray was the game that perhaps most of all symbolizes the advent of the latest generation consoles; you probably already know the story. A cat is separated from his family: to find her he will have to face a journey through an apocalyptic world populated by robots and creatures that hunt him down.

Another comeback that we really like is Dead Cells, a 2D side-scrolling roguelike with Metroidvania elements, with a minimalist storyline and a silent protagonist. The Prisoner will have to make his way in a chaotic and very fast game world: will you be able to keep up with him and lead him to victory?
