Twitter Notes, blog with no character limits coming to the platform
According to reports from TechCrunch, in the next few weeks a new feature that has been talked about for some time on Twitter should arrive. Already last May Jane Manchun Wong had talked about a called function Twitter Articles. Real blog posts, complete with images, linkpossibility to post others tweet embedded. But the first images were already leaking in April.
TechCrunch, however, warns that the feature is arriving in the coming weeks. And it will be called Twitter Notesa name that will play a central role in the next beta of the app.
Adding a version with no character limits could change the whole spirit of Twitter, which has always embraced the Shakespearean saying. “Brevity is the soul of reason“. In fact, at the beginning there were only 140 characters, without images or videos. Only in 2017 the social network has decided to double the character limit to 280.
But the truth is that in recent years, many users have started sharing images they contained screenshots of longer texts, or they linked to articles written on other platforms or personal blogs. By allowing this content to be posted longer, Twitter could exploit its full potential.
The company in 201 had bought the company for the management of newsletter Revue, to compete with Substack and the tendency to share longer posts with their fans. This new step will increasingly make Twitter the place for mid-length essays. But is it really something users want? We will find out in the coming weeks.
