Samsung unveiled the latest version of its flash memory, UFS 4.0, which promises significant improvements in performance. Speed should indeed double compared to the current UFS 3.1. And this, combined with the 5Gshould give new impetus to applications of augmented and virtual reality.
Samsung UFS 4.0, but new flash memory doubles the speed
Samsung is at the forefront of many technology fields, not just smartphone manufacturing. Its version of UFS 3.1 provides writing and reading data on the best top-of-the-range and gaming smartphones in the world. But with the new generation, the performance significantly improve.
Indeed the company announces a speed from 23.2 Gbps on each line for UFS 4.0, doubling the power compared to generation 3.1. According to Samsung, this becomes fundamental especially for 5G smartphones, given the great potential in downloads made available by this technology.
But according to the company, this new speed in memory will also allow you to enable the use of applications AR e VR more complex at a pace never seen before.
In addition to more power, it also improves efficiency energy. In fact, the sequential reading speed reaches 6 MB / s per milliampere. This should be the 46% more efficient than UFS 3.1, despite the increased speed.
Finally, size also matters. If a 512GB UFS 3.1 memory measured 11.5 x 13 x 1mm, the 1TB version 4.0 measures 11 x 13 x 1mm. Slightly less, but for the double the storage space.
Samsung explained that the memories will go into production in third quarter 2022so we could see them on smartphones as early as late 2022 or early 2023. Maybe debuting with the next generation of Galaxy.
