Sinnoh gemstones force Battlefield 2042 to settle for bronze: here are the latest sales figures for video games
Welcome back, on an appointment as late for scrutiny reasons as the previous one, to our weekly analysis of sales data for i video games from the UK. The census of the infallible British body GfK was reported by GamesIndustry.biz and it is with pleasure that we will deal with the Italian edition of the special. Before going into our ranting, however, it is good to reiterate the “rule” of all time: in this column we always and only talk about physical format, as the digital data does not arrive before the weekend. That said, we can finally proceed.
Precious toys
Hardly video games Pokémon they need introductions, and it is with pleasure that we inform you that the reason for our delay in reporting on sales figures has been able to win not only the gold medal, but also the silver one. Shining Diamond e Shining Pearl in fact, they conquer the first and second place respectively, becoming on balance the most sensational launch of the year as regards the hybrid console of the Grande N. Of the two, the Shining Diamond alone was able to overcome the first sales of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury.

As if that were not enough, the positions of Pokémon in the sales figures are not two but three: in fact, in ninth place among the best-selling video games bundle which contains them both. This is the second best launch of the year for the physical format, halfway between the success of FIFA 22 and the annual bronze of Call of Duty Vanguard. In comparison to other chapters of the series, the data at launch see the remakes at a disadvantage by 26% on the Spada and Scudo, but also by 13% higher than the two Let’s Go !, dating back to November 2019 and November 2018 respectively (a pattern we noticed in our review).

The third place, in spite of the famous “power gap”, is all about Battlefield 2042. The game’s data at launch is down by 59% compared to its predecessor, Battlefield 5 of 2018. Of course, as always remember that the digital format has gained a lot of ground on the physical over the past three years. We will get a better idea of the performance over the weekend. For the data we have now, unsurprisingly Sony consoles boast the largest numbers. 50% was sold on PS5, 20% on PS4, 17% on Xbox One and the remaining 13% on Xbox Series X and Series S. Ironically, Halo Infinite’s free multiplayer was released digitally last week, in direct competition with the primary format of Battlefield 2042 on the Xbox console.

Moving from one shooter to another, the continued first place of Call of Duty Vanguard has finally come to an end. The stock of Activision therefore slips into fourth position, with a decrease of 37% compared to the previous week. We do not say “last week” because, as we always explain in our appointment, this is what we are talking about: today we are collecting the data of the previous seven days, just as the last episode concerns the data of two weeks ago. Keep that in mind when it comes time to read our end-of-article table, of course!
A black Friday like the blue consoles – Sales figures for video games
Moving on to something else, the arrival of new PS5 stocks in stores means… exactly what you have come to expect by now. Exclusives benefit enormously, bringing Spider-Man: Miles Morales from fourteenth to sixth place with a momentum of 366%, thanks also to bundles and promotions of what in Italy we like to call “Black Friday”. In this regard, Ubisoft has also been busy. Far Cry 6 it moved up three places, returning eighth after a 180% increase. Just Dance 2022 it gets up five places, returning tenth with a boost of 232%. Riders Republic rose to fourteenth place with an increase of 169%. For the series “who does not die sees himself”, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla falls in the top 40 in fifteenth place with a jump of 462%.
Come on, get up – Sales figures for video games
The great rookie of last week (or rather, of the previous one … it also happens to us to cheat), Forza Horizon 5, fell twelve places and is now sixteenth with a 56% slip. He’s having a worse time Jurassic World Evolution 2, first sixth and now twenty-third with a decline of 66%. The other new game from last week, the Switch exclusive Shin Megami Tensei V has disappeared entirely from the charts. The rookies of the week just ended, however, are Nerf Legends which debuts in eighteenth place, while Kena: Bridge of Spirits part twenty-fourth.
Concluding records
As we anticipated, we cannot close the sales figures for video games without first showing you the table and remember the key to reading it. The positions of this week, or rather the one just ended, are those correctly ordered in the center. On the left you will find the placings of two weeks ago, seen in the last episode. “Who was not there” will be automatically reported as a rookie. You don’t need anything else, so enjoy your reading!
