To “make the game less toxic” Valorant introduces the ability for each individual player to create a list of banned words: “Our users are smarter than our AI for swearing and threat detection”
Lists of banned words by individual users: Valorant’s solution to combat “toxic” players
Riot Games announced in these hours that the 4.01 patch of Valuing – which should be released today (January 19) – cwill allow individual players to create their own list of banned words. Currently the game makes use of (or rather, an AI) that filters bad language, detecting threats and bad words. But the possibility of creating a personalized list of terms not liked by the individual user was not, at least until now, contemplated.
Here’s how Riot Games introduced the novelty through a post on the videogame’s official website:
“We admit that some players are often smarter than our automated swear detection system. Toxic users continually find creative ways to type words we don’t want in chat, often replacing certain letters with numbers. That’s why we need the help of the entire community to improve our detections! Help us! “
The post goes on to explain how individual players can help AI recognize profanity and hidden threats:
“We hope to take advantage of banned word lists you create to make chat in the game less toxic. The words you report will help our automated systems in the recognition of unwanted words. Our team thanks in advance all those who want to help us make Valorant a better place for everyone! “
