WhatsAppthe popular messaging app from Meta, announced the launch of the feature today Channels in more than 150 countries around the world, including Italy. The new feature allows users to follow content from companies, artists and influencers directly within the app.
What are WhatsApp channels and how do they work?
Channels are different from traditional chats, as they are designed as a one-way transmission service. This means that it will be possible to read but not respondas already happens with Telegram channels (by the way, did you know that the techgameworld.com Telegram channel exists which collects the best tech offers?)
Channel administrators can post updates and information to their followers. The latter cannot see who the other subscribers to the channel are, nor interact with each other, thus guaranteeing confidentiality and privacy.
Here are some of the main features of WhatsApp Channels:
- Reactions: users can show appreciation for channel messages through emojis. The reactions will be anonymous, but it will be possible to see which (and how many) reactions the message has received.
- Editing messages: Channel creators can edit posted messages, but only within 30 days of posting.
- Message forwarding: Messages can be forwarded from the channel to users’ private chats. Along with the message there will also be the link to the channel, so you can subscribe to the channel.
- Directory: WhatsApp shows the channels you can subscribe to. These are suggested depending on the user’s needs and country.
One of the channels created is the official WhatsApp one, in which the developers publish all the news regarding the app. If you don’t want to sign up, don’t worry, we’ll be here to keep you updated.
