A universal digital currency, available to all human beings on the planet. Worldcointhe project led by OpenAI co-founder and CEO Sam Altman, aims to create a real universal citizen’s income with this token. And it seems that the CEO of OpenAI is close to realizing this futuristic project (although there is debate whether it is a utopia or a dystopia.
Worldcoin, the token that acts as a “universal citizenship income”
According to the Financial Times, Altman would be on the verge of obtaining a new round of financing of approx 100 million dollars for Worldcoin, which should be launched within the next six weeks.
An ambitious project, which aims to create a global currency that is fair and inclusive. But with a strange request: to get this currency you have to undergo one iris scan to prove you are human. After verifying the person’s identity, this will receive a certain amount of Worldcoin tokens for free.
Worldcoin claims to want to solve two of the problems related to artificial intelligence. The first is the ability to distinguish between humans and robots – using biometric data from the iris. The second is to offer a form of universal basic income. To mitigate the consequences of AI on the labor market.
The project already has several supporters. Like the Andreessen Horowitz crypto fund. But also Stam Bankman-Fried, the former CEO of Ftx, which went bankrupt last November. Something that slowed down the development of the solution.
But there are other detractors who are concerned that the company requires an iris scan for access. The details will make the difference in this project. Ambitious, but still unclear.
