As 2021 draws to a close, it is time to look back and take a look at what were the biggest moments of the year. There is no doubt that the 2021 it was the year of social networks, also due to the pandemic, which forced us inside the home for many months to communicate through these platforms. So let’s take stock of the most important moments of 2021 regarding social networks.
Social network 2021: the most important moments
The arrival of Clubhouse
One of the most important moments of this year when it comes to social networks undoubtedly concerns the arrival of a new actor in the panorama of these platforms: we are obviously talking about Clubhouse, which debuted last February. Despite its overbearing and sensational entry into the social media business, this platform is configured as a real meteor, crashing to the ground after a few months.
His influence in the ecosystem of competitors is not to be underestimated, however, as following his example many other colleagues have begun to implement more and more options related to voice chat. Just think of Telagram’s unlimited voice calls or Facebook’s Live Audio Rooms.
Of course all this interest in the voice has been a bubble, but something is destined to remain.
Facebook down
Another event that you will all remember quite well is the great Facebook blackout, which took place a few months ago. The down involved all the services related to the social network of Mark Zuckerberg like WhatsApp and Instagram, and lasted the beauty of six hours, as well as costing the company billions.
The cause of this darkening was nothing more than a simple human error: an error that highlighted how the social empire in the hands of Meta is as powerful as fragile, leaving many users unable to communicate on a large scale.
From Facebook to Meta
Staying on the subject of Facebook, one of the most unexpected announcements of the year concerns the rebranding of the company in Meta, with the advent of the Metaverse. This change of direction is undoubtedly partly due to the scandal that has affected the company during the past months, due to the so-called Facebook Papers, which showed that the company has in no way trying to fight disinformation, even inciting it in some cases.
Probably to divert people’s attention on this issue, Zuckerberg announced the change of Facebook’s name in Meta, with an offer based on the concept of Metaverso, that is a virtual space that guarantees a very high level of immersion by intertwining virtual reality with physical reality.
The Metaverse has quickly become a trend, and many tech giants are building their own version of it.
The climb of TikTok
In this scenario almost entirely in the hands of Zuckerberg it is impossible not to mention how TikTok is becoming more and more popular, so much so that it has reached the record of one billion monthly active users all over the world. To make the fortune of this social network are the short videos, which have allowed users to create various types of content, from simple ballets, to clips that are a little more engaged.
In short, short videos on the most disparate topics are slowly transforming the platform into a sort of alternative version of YouTube, in which it is possible to come across content related to music and culture, as well as simple entertainment.
All this also thanks to the algorithm that moves the videos, practically one of the most efficient ever seen on the market.
I video brevi
TikTok, as we said, has brought the concept of short video, mania that has quickly invaded the rest of the social networks, which have tried to imitate their colleague with functions designed ad hoc. For this we had the Shorts from YouTube for example, one of the platforms that most felt called into question by the competition from TikTok.
Despite this, in recent months there has been a partial paradigm shift, given that more and more social networks, including TikTok, have been forced to lengthen a minimum of videos designed with this format, to trivially allow creatives to have more room to maneuver with their contents.
It is no coincidence that these solutions are favoring the advent of numerous new content creators.
