LG Electronics managed to transmit and receive successfully dati wireless taking advantage of a banda 6G terahertz (THz), on 100 meters and in an outdoor environment (outdoors). The result was achieved thanks to the collaboration with the largest applied research laboratory in Europe, the Fraunhofer Society.
Technology 6G THz has a small range, and power loss occurs during transmission and reception between antennas. It is therefore necessary to amplify the power to stabilize the signal through ultra-wide band frequencies.
LG and the innovations in the field of the 6G THz band
The power amplifier generates a stable output signal up to 15dBm, in a range of frequency between 155 and 175 GHz. LG has successfully implemented the technology of beamforming adaptive, so as to direct the signal, and the antenna switching HGA (High – Gain Antenna).
Worldwide standardization is estimated for 2025, with the commercialization foreseen within the following 4 years. 6G networks in the future should ensure faster wireless data transmission, with low latency and a high level of reliability.
In this area, LG has been paving the way for several years already. In 2019 he created the LG-KAIST 6G Research Center, in collaboration with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. The company was also chosen for the presidency of theApplications Working Group della Next G Alliance, as a guide to the development of 6G technology in North America.
That role should last for over a decade, testifying to LG’s commitment to the new technological standard.
The words of DR. IP Park
Dr. I.P. Park, president and CTO of LG Electronics, he has declared:
“The success of this test shows that we are getting closer and closer to the successful application of the THz (terahertz) communication spectrum in the upcoming 6G era. Our partnerships with local and global research institutions and organizations to advance the development of 6G capabilities are bringing great results. “
