Triumph and the Moto2 World Championship: an agreement that continues. The English motorcycle manufacturer has in fact made it official that it will continue with its supply of performers 765cc 3-cylinder engines as the “Exclusive Engine Supplier” of the FIM Moto2 ™ World Championship for another 3 years: from 2022 to 2024.
Triumph and Moto2: a bond that began three seasons ago
Since the beginning of the 2019 vintage, which marked the baptism of the collaboration with Dorna, Triumph Motorcycles provides all teams with triple 765 engines, optimized for racing use, derived from the 3-cylinder road that equips the refined sporty Street Triple RS roadster. Thanks to a constant development path, the engine in Moto2 ™ configuration it currently delivers over 140 horsepower, a significant 17% increase over the stock engine.
The adoption of the triple engine immediately brought to the Championship a surplus of power, performance and competitiveness much appreciated by the drivers and fans of the World Championship.
By supporting Dorna’s vision of making the Moto2 ™ class closer to the MotoGP ™, the increased horsepower and torque and the adoption of an advanced electronic package have also provided a more interesting test bed for the riders, and potentially able to facilitate the transition to the premier category of the World Championship with the prospect of greater competitiveness, and in shorter times.
Over the last 2 years, the riders who vied for the Moto2 ™ title were then able to achieve placings, podiums and even victories over the course of the “rookie” season in the superior category: 2019 Moto2 ™ Champion Alex Marquez has took 2 second places in 2020, while his rival Brad Binder won one race in 2020 and a second one recently in Austra in 2021. Jorge Martin took his first Moto2 ™ victory in 2020, and subsequently as a rookie in MotoGP ™ he put a row one victory and two podiums in 2021. While redefining the parameters of the category, the Triumph engines also conquered numerous records: 14 different drivers have won at least one race from 2019 to the present, 34 times have been set Lap Records of the circuit, including records that have been repeatedly improved year after year , without forgetting the breaking of the 300 km / h wall for the first time in the championship (the current record is 301.8 km / h in Phillip Island, Australia).
