Over the years – and more and more in recent months – we have grown accustomed to most disparate crossovers for Fortnite, one of the most played titles in the world. From the world Marvel to that DC Comics, passing through Star Wars and concerts of all kinds, characters of all kinds have passed through the lands of this video game. However, few would have expected to see a meeting between Fortnite and Martin Luther King, announced as a surprise in the last few hours.
Fortnite celebrates Martin Luther King with a new educational project
The combination at first glance is decidedly curious. Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the most important figures of the twentieth century, a central figure in the history of civil rights of African Americans in the United States, as well as one of the symbols of pacifism and nonviolence that has influenced generations and generations. It is therefore not quite what one would expect in a title like Fortnite, but perhaps precisely for this reason it is particularly interesting.
Let’s start by clarifying one thing: it is not a collaboration similar to the ones we mentioned at the beginning. Don’t expect the debut of a Martin Luther King skin on Fortnite and the resulting videos of the Reverend dancing on every social platform. Instead, it is an experience born from the community and presented by TIME Studios that aims to educate players (often very young) by offering the possibility of immerse yourself in history of King.
It will therefore be possible to rediscover the Washington D.C. del 1963, exploring iconic locations such as the Lincoln Memorial and the National Mall all reconstructed digitally. There will be virtual museums, collaborative mini-games and educational paths to follow. All in the footsteps of one of the figures they have marked modern history, learning much more about him.
This is definitely a sign of growth and maturation for Fortnite. Despite what its cartoonish design might suggest, over the years this title has proven to have great ambitions. It is establishing itself as a reality that can offer even more than the video game, creating a truly rich and new world. Where you can have fun, make new friends, listen to concerts, watch movies and now too learn more traveling to museums.
