There has been much discussion about the possibility of Netflix entering the world of video games. And now this is becoming a reality. In fact, the company recently launched a game for Oculus Quest called Eden Unearthed. Available for free, the title can be downloaded within the App Lab, which means that it has not gone through the entire Oculus review process. And from the information we have, the game was developed and published by Netflix, while providing few other hints about its origins. What we do know for sure, though, is that it’s inspired by the Netflix anime Eden. And this was certainly not difficult to understand.
Eden: Netflix launches a game inspired by the anime
While we don’t have a lot of news available, what we do know is what the game was imagined as a tie-in for the Netflix anime series Eden. More in detail, the App Lab shows two versions of the game, with release dates different from each other. Version v0.7 was released on April 20, while version v0.8 was released in August, which makes us think that Netflix is still working on the title. And that this is therefore not the final version.
At the moment, in fact, the game has a rather simple structure and an incredibly intuitive experience. The players immerse themselves in a future world, inhabited exclusively by robots, in which they move aboard a futuristic motorcycle. By collecting apples to use as fuel and dodging obstacles to pick up speed, you can stop along the way to follow a few brief moments of storytelling within the game.
Having clarified this, it should be noted that we do not know if Eden Unearthed is really the ideal example of the video games that Netflix will launch in its future. What we know for sure is that the company wants to invest in the gaming sector, also given the recent hiring of Mike Verdu, former executive of Oculus and EA. And this title could be just the first step towards a bigger goal. On the other hand, we are sure that fans of Eden on Netflix will be happy. And that’s enough.
