Today i finally came outThe Italian trailer of the highly anticipated new film by Kenneth Branagh, Belfast. The film was presented at several film festivals, including those in Telluride and Toronto and was welcomed by reactions so enthusiastic that the director was even moved.
In Italy the film will be distributed starting November 11 by Universal Pictures e it will also be premiered at the Rome Film Festival, in the Alice nella Città review.
The plot
Kenneth Branagh will momentarily put aside the mysteries of the mustachioed Poirot and the scenarios of Agatha Christie’s detective novels (the release of Murder on the Nile is set for 2022 for the moment), to delve into in the past of Northern Ireland, more precisely in the year 1969, at the beginning of the Irish Question, a conflict that will last 30 years.
It seems that the The film’s plot is both semi-autobiographical and narrates Branagh’s childhood in the city of Belfast, with the Northern Irish conflict in the background.
In a bellissimo black and white the director tells a coming-of-age story in Northern Ireland in 1969, when the so-called “Troubles” began to claim victims. It is a moving story of love, laughter and loss in a boy’s childhood, amidst the music and social turmoil of the late 1960s.
It is the story of little Buddy who grows up at the very beginning of this turbulent period that involves his life and his family. A story that is both human and social.
He cast
The cast includes Golden Globe nominee Caitriona Balfe, Academy Award winner Judi Dench, Jamie Dornan, Ciaran Hinds and we will see 10-year-old little Jude Hill on screen for the first time. Dornan and Balfe represent a passionate working-class couple caught up in the chaos, with Dench and Hinds playing the witty grandparents.
The film is produced by Branagh, Laura Berwick, Becca Kovacik and Tamar Thomas.
