Organic changes in sight for the highly anticipated Diablo 4, which, as communicated by Blizzard and Activision, now has a new game director
The past couple of months have been really turbulent for Blizzard Entertainment and Activision Blizzard, following allegations of sexual harassment and employee discrimination affecting the two companies. Due to the legal consequences of the incident, as was logical to predict, there was a real one exodus of multiple professional figures, including individuals who have seen an active involvement in the facts. And this sort of forced restructuring did not fail to involve too Diablo 4, who has lived change his game director.
Diablo 4 changes its game director
The highly anticipated fourth installment of the series, in fact, has seen the abandonment of two of its main figures within the staff, embodied by the figures of game director Luis Barraga and lead designer Jesse McCree, who are now no longer part of the company. Regarding the first role, however, the confirmation of replacement, as evidenced by an update appeared on the Blizzard official site.
The news sees the center Joe Shely, a studio veteran who was already working as a lead designer on the game since 2017, which has now been confirmed as new project director.

“As a design lead who has worked from the beginning on this dark and shared open world action RPG, I am honored to continue the vision of Diablo IV as the new game director, and I am touched to represent the commitment that this team makes. is dedicating to the game.
Like many of you, our team has also been reflecting on the latest events, and many things have happened since our last blog post, but I confirm that we intend to continue to strive to follow up on the values we believe in. And in parallel with this important goal, we are also continuing work on Diablo IV. “
Diablo 4 was announced in 2019 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, although no official release date has been confirmed since. Given the situation, however, it cannot be excluded that we will have to wait a little longer before seeing it, but perhaps the delay could lead to the confirmation of the native versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X / S.
