YouTube Rewind, goodbye. For the second consecutive year the platform eliminates the roundup of most viewed videos of the year. He had already done so in 2020, when he decided that the conditions imposed by Covid-19 were not suitable for the student spirit of sharing content. A decision also renewed in 2021, a year in which the pandemic is slowing down, but without really letting go.
YouTube: Rewind also eliminated in 2021
According to what was reported by Tubefilter, YouTube would have decided to eliminate Rewind also for 2021. The roundup of most viewed videos of the year, therefore, will be replaced by other (and new) experiences proposed by the platform. The reason? Beyond the condition imposed by Covid-19, the platform would have seen too many videos uploaded during the year, which would make impossible to summarize them all in a single content a few minutes. And since Google found itself having to abandon this option, it chose to rely on creators like MrBeast e Slayy Point for the creation of end-of-year videos to share on social channels.
Apparently, users should be able to access a new tool by December summary of annual trends, and also to a minisite where you can interact with the content promoted on the platform. YouTube Rewind, therefore, seems to be just a distant memory. But we are sure that users will not be sorry. In fact, at its debut in 2010, the function met with some success because it represented an interesting novelty. In 2018, however, Rewind began its slow – and inexorable – decline, earning well 19 million dislikes (compared to only 3 million likes). The pandemic then did the rest. But YouTube Rewind’s fate was more than sealed.
