The run-up to the Big N schedule begins: the first Nintendo Switch Online title is Paper Mario, the classic N64 from twenty years ago
The Kyoto giant has already made it clear in the past that the games would not come monthly, but the arrival of Paper Mario as part of the “add-on package” of Nintendo Switch Online gives us an idea of the pace at which new games will be released. The deluxe variant of the service made its debut on October 26, and since then there has been no news of the “future titles” planned for the game library … until today, at least. The first of the incentives for the transition to the new price list is planned for next week, as a trailer released today by the Great N.
Paper Mario arrives on Nintendo Switch Online… but will he be alone?
For those unfamiliar with the series, the first Paper Mario is the debut of Intelligent Systems (Advance Wars, Fire Emblem) with a more “regular” plumber’s adventure (after Mario Paint, Wario’s Woods and Tetris Attack on SNES), and soon the beneficiaries of the Nintendo Switch Online add-on package will be able to experience for the first time ( or relive) this adventure. The saga represents the second reinterpretation of the Mushroom Kingdom in a hybrid key between Role playing game e platformer, after Super Mario RPG and before Mario & Luigi. Bowser’s castle, which raised Peach’s to the sky, would later receive a cameo in Mario Kart: Super Circuit’s Rainbow Track. We leave you to the trailer.
As you can see, the appointment is exactly one week from today. The game will come with a (relatively) free update to the Nintendo 64 app December 10, after the Game Awards. The suspicious timing can only lead us to wonder if the Big N didn’t want to just throw us a curveball with a minor announcement. It is perfectly possible, in fact, that the bomb that Geoff Keighley alludes to is hidden among the forty announcements. However, regarding the expectations that the latter asks us to place in its creation, we can only be patient.
