Retro Games officially announces the release date of THEA500 Mini, the new console that will allow you to play the iconic Amiga titles considered today classics
It is not uncommon for innovation to be brought about by nostalgia: just look at what is done in the world of video games, with remakes and remasters that modernize works that are now difficult to use by today’s players. However, the attachment one feels towards those characteristic devices, now categorized in the retrogaming line, shows no signs of dying at all. And that is why the various gaming houses they provide to recreate that atmosphere, releasing the various classics on the new consoles, or specifically creating “mini” versions. After the NES mini and the Commodore 64, the Amiga will soon be able to too bring players back to the melancholy 80s, with a reinterpretation of his home computer through THEA500 Mini, due out in the coming months.
What to expect from the release of THEA500 Mini
THEA500 Mini, developed by Retro Games and distributed by Koch Media, was initially unveiled this summer. In recent months, the final list of games included has been announced: they will be 25 classic Amiga titles, and it will also be possible to use the mini console to play other original Amiga works if they have them, through the WHDLoad functionality. Included with the THEA500 Mini will be a mouse USB of almost two meters, a controller with eight buttons, a USB-A to USB-C power cable and an HDMI cable that is compatible with all modern TVs. In addition, there will also be the functionality of saving games, the ability to choose between 50Hz or 60Hz, a CRT filter and different resolution options. Files such as games and firmware will be inserted with a USB stick, which will not be included, however.
The Managing Director of Retro Games also released a statement, stating how the team worked hard to create the firmware for THEA500 Mini, while also anticipating a new firmware for the THEC64 by Christmas. THEA500 Mini is scheduled for release on March 25, 2022, and launch units will be sent out starting in 2022. In addition, select territories will also receive autonomous “solus” packages of Mouse and Gamepad, given the strong demand from fans. The latest titles that will join the playable collection are Stunt Car Racer, Arcade Pool, Project-X Special Edition 93, F-16 Combat Pilot, e Super Cars II, while the rest of the games already announced are:
