Double for sales figures: UK physical video games are back for Christmas feast and year-end encore!
We expected to have to sprinkle our heads with ash again, but apparently i sales data for i video games from the UK have caught up with one double final sprint. Evidently, GamesIndustry.biz wanted to report the last two censuses of GfK in bulk, showing us how sales in stores in the week until December 25th e until the first of the year. You know what it means: we have a special even more special than usual on our hands. As always, remember that these numbers are for solo sales physical format.
Samples under the tree and under the fireworks
Let’s start with the usual certainties of our sales figures for the most successful video games at the checkout. After being crowned number one for the week just before Christmas, FIFA 22 held the position until the big day, up 13% weekly. Sales then plummeted by 63% in the following days, taking the football simulator to second place. Usually this happens to all games in physical format at the close of the holiday period, as evidenced by the overall decline of 40%. The Nintendo Switch games, however, have fared quite well, given the great success of the console this year.
The overwhelming W of the Big N – Sales figures for video games
As for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, eternal little price among our sales figures, the title dropped only 16% after Christmas, making it the last top spot of 2021 in terms of best-selling video games. Overall, this is the seventh gold medal for gaming in the UK since its launch in April 2017. Meanwhile, the 8% decrease in Animal Crossing: New Horizons he was lenient enough to lift him from third to seventh. In total, there are five exclusives for the hybrid console in the top ten, as we’ll see in detail in a couple of lines.
“Power gap” one horn – Sales figures for video games
Half of the top ten therefore belongs to the hybrid console for the Kyoto giant. To be sure, we could even talk about six games, if we even count Just Dance 2022. Ubisoft’s stock collapsed by 56%, but its fall stopped in eighth place thanks to the majority of sales on the Big N hybrid. Pokémon Shining Diamond (sixth place, 8% drop), the Switch version of Minecraft (seventh place, 38% drop e Mario Party Superstars (10th place, 14% drop). As for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, we have already talked about him.
Christmas balls and silver bullets, but no werewolves – Sales figures for video games
The week before Christmas, Call of Duty Vanguard held firm hold on second place after a 7% drop in sales, only to later lose out in a manner not unlike FIFA (with a weekly drop of 64%). Activision’s shooter currently remains in fifth place, sharing the top five with Spider-Man: Miles Morales (benefiting from the new PS5 stockpiles). The only other game in the entire top 40 to grow in sales is New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe in eighteenth place, with an increase of 3%. We don’t get it right either: statistics are an ugly beast.
There is a front between us – Sales figures for video games
Among the major releases in physical format, we also have Grand Theft Auto The Trilogy: Definitive Edition (with a debut in eighth place) ed Among Us (fifth). Later, GTA lost 70% of its sales on the road to 23rd place. Among Us certainly did not fare better, with an unseemly 81% slip that earned him 29th place. In the week that followed, they both dropped straight out of the top 40 in full. We understand that our review of one of the two made the fate quite predictable, but anyway… poracci.
