LAS VEGAS – Labrador Retriever. The name should already give you some clues. After all, the Labrador is a retriever, a faithful companion who can really give you a hand if necessary. The robot of Labrador System it does exactly the same thing: it stays at home, in a corner, and is activated to help you when you need it. As? Avoiding travel and effort.
Labrador Retriever: what does it do and what is it for?
Labrador retriever mainly performs one task: bring objects from point A to point B. To do this, he uses a series of sensors that help him to map the house in which it is located and to avoid obstacles, so as to move in total autonomy. To make it easier for him, the company has developed a system based on the presence of specific stops. Not like those of the bus, mind you. Labrador Retriever does not follow a designated path, stopping at each stop, but, using the dedicated app, it is possible to define which are the places in the house where it can stop.
There are two ways to invoke your new butler: the aforementioned application or Alexa. Know that, in the future, it will also be possible to give him complex indications. At CES the company has in fact brought a special refrigerator that can open when the Labrador Retriever arrives; at that point the tray of drinks was pushed onto the little robot which had the task of taking it to its destination.
Labrador Retriever supports a maximum of 25 lbs (about 11 kg) and can get down or up, adapting to the situation and needs of individual customers.
This product, which formally can be useful to anyone, was actually designed for a specific audience: the elderly, people with mobility problems and those suffering from chronic diseases eat Parkinson’s or arthritis.
The cost? In reality the company will focus on a monthly subscription of $ 150. They seem a lot, we know, but in reality they are not. First of all because we are still talking about an advanced robot despite its apparently simple task; secondly, it is designed for the American market, where a home nurse costs $ 70 an hour. Savings, even in the short term, are therefore important, not to mention the advantage – both physical and psychological – of gaining some autonomy.
