Google in Ukraine will warn Android users of Russian air strikes
Ukraine has been reacting to the Russian invasion for over two weeks now, which continues to endanger the Ukrainian population. Google therefore decided to collaborate with the Kyiv government to limit attacks on civiliansactivating a warning system for air attacks.
Google states: “Unfortunately, millions of people in Ukraine now rely on air strike warnings to try and escape. At the request and with the help of the Ukrainian government, we have started to implement an air raid warning system in Ukraine. “
Google’s system will be complementary to thatthem already existing in the Ukrainian territorymaking it easier to warn the public of impending attacks.
The official news had been anticipated by the developers of XDA, who had found the clues in the Google code Play Services v22.06.15. Google will therefore implement the function at the system level, although in the Play Store there is already an application dedicated to the alert for air raids called Air alarm.
This is just the latest technology innovation Google has deployed for Ukraine, after it has made sure to in the past few weeks decrease the spread of Russian propaganda and took part in the boycott of Moscow. The hope is that this feature will help the population to stay safe and resist the advance of Russian troops.
