In 2026, the Winter Olympics will return to their iconic region. The Milan Cortina Games 2026 aim to leave a legacy for the years to come, as well as contributing to the sustainable development of the host cities and their regions in the fields of economy, environment and social life. At the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, spectators will witness the debut of ski mountaineering in a program of competitions planned by the experts of the best betting sites.
Sofia Goggia, Arianna Fontana, Federica Brignone and Armin Zoggeler have represented Italy in winter sports and now the country is determined to give the world a vacation for centuries. Milan Cortina 2026 will be the third Winter Olympics in Italy, having hosted the Games in 1956 in Cortina and in 2006 in Turin.
Three regions, one Olympics
The Winter Olympics will return to northern Italy 70 years after Cortina 1956 and two decades after Turin 2006. This time the competition will be hosted by two cities: the ski resort of Cortina d’Ampezzo and Milan, the fashion capital and economic center of Italy.
The competitions will be held in three regions simultaneously. Cortina is located in the center of the Dolomites, while Milan is the capital of Lombardy. In general, the surface of the 14 sports facilities will be 22 square kilometers, and will extend from Lombardy to Veneto, including the provinces of Trento and Bolzano.
The indoor competitions will mainly take place in the Milan Cluster, while the Cortina Cluster will host the outdoor competitions. The Olympics will bring together around 3,500 athletes from 93 countries. It is also expected that around two million spectators will come to the celebration. The inauguration ceremony will take place on 6 February 2026 at the San Siro Stadium in Milan and the closing ceremony on 22 February at the Verona Arena.
New games, new disciplines
In 2026, ski mountaineering will make its debut at the Winter Olympics. He will join the family of seven sports, medals in which they were played in 2022 in Beijing. Ski touring combines mountaineering with skis and then descending on them.
Medals will be awarded in the women’s and men’s sprint and individual races, as well as in the mixed relay. The same five disciplines were presented at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics in Lausanne, where ski mountaineering competitions were held for the first time under the auspices of the IOC.
Milano Cortina 2026 will also host competitions in the following disciplines: biathlon, bobsleigh, alpine skiing, curling, speed skating, Nordic combined, cross-country skiing, ski jumping, luge, skeleton, snowboard, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey and short track.
Logo chosen by the vote
Futura, the official emblem of the Milan Cortina 2026 Games, has become the first ever Olympic logo to be chosen by the public’s vote. In a vote on the official website of the 2026 Winter Olympics, this logo received 74% of 871,000 votes from 169 countries, which was announced live stream.
Futura is a snow-white spelling of the number 26 and reflects the organizers’ commitment to greening the 2026 Games and leaving a rich legacy. These plans are based on the desire to use, for the most part, temporary or existing structures and infrastructures. The organizers dream of organizing the zero-carbon Olympics and contributing to the economic development of northern Italy.
