Blizzard recently posted a post on their official blog in which they talked about Overwatch 2’s new ping system
In recent times we hear more and more of Overwatch 2, the sequel to the hugely popular FPS competitive of Blizzard. Some time ago the company revealed the dates on which it will be possible to play the beta PVP and recently also studied one of the new mechanics which will be introduced in the title. In fact, a long post dedicated to the game has been published on the official blog of the game ping system which will be introduced in Overwatch 2.
Convenient and precise communication
Blizzard has decided to include in Overwatch 2 a mechanic that is very much requested by the fians: the ping system. This new mechanic will allow players to communicate quickly in a non-verbal way at the push of a button, thus providing valuable information to your teammates. For example it will be possible accurately indicate the position of an enemy, signal an area to defend or attack, ask for support and respond to teammates’ pings with different pre-set phrases. Plus the pings they will also be able to react to some specific abilities of the heroessuch as Sompra’s relocator or the spectral form of Reaper.
We wanted to create a system that would improve voice communication and also provide an alternative system for sharing information with the team. One of our goals was to improve communication and give players a way to visually interpret voice communications. We also wanted to create a system that would also allow those people who prefer to avoid voice chat to communicate.
This is a statement of Gavin Winter, Blizzard Systems Designer, who seems to be very confident in this new mechanic. According to Winter, the new ping system could also help reduce the toxicity involved, especially towards gamers who don’t like using voice chat. Also, in case someone should abuse the mechanics in a harassing way, it will be possible to deactivate it specifically blocking the person who is bothering you.
Currently the release of Overwatch 2 is scheduled for a generic 2023 on both PC and console.
