As reported by NME, the first game of the Forza Horizon franchise appeared in the Xbox Store catalog for a few minutes on Saturday evening (April 30). The title, probably uploaded by mistake, was immediately removed within minutes. Recall that the video game was withdrawn from the market in 2016, due to the expiration of third-party licenses for cars, tracks and other elements of the real world. NME points out that renewing such agreements can often be extremely costly, and developers often prefer to focus on new titles.
Forza Horizon 1 on the Xbox Store? What’s cooking in the pot?
At the moment it is not clear what happened on Saturday evening. In fact, if it is clear that the game was loaded by mistake, it is equally true that publication would have been impossible if Microsoft had not acquired the relevant licenses. The beck-end error could therefore be the signal of a future re-release of all old Forza Horizon titles. Obviously we are in the field of hypotheses and none of these theses are supported by official communications.
The game was released in 2012 for Xbox 360, as a spin-off of the Forza Motorsport franchise. However, the success prompted the British developers of Playground Games to publish 5 titles in the series. The latest, Forza Horizon 5, is currently available for purchase and is part of the Game Pass catalog.
