A team: the docuseries about the great Italian tennis arrives at the cinema on 2, 3 and 4 May
It is conceived, produced and directed by Domenico Procacci the docuseries in six episodes that tells the salient moments of the great Italian tennis. It arrives in cinemas on 2, 3 and 4 May, so we advise fans not to miss it!
The docuseries focuses on the history of the Italian team that won the Davis Cup in 1976 and reached the final three more times: the story of Adriano Panatta, Corrado Barazzutti, Paolo Bertolucci, Tonino Zugarelli e Nicola Pietrangeli.
The debut in Italian cinemas is a sort of preview that shows the funniest and most important moments of Italian tennis. A team, in fact, will also be available on SkyDocumentaries from May 14 for those who can’t manage to see the episodes in cinemas.
The six episodes tell, as already mentioned, the famous feat of the team made up of Adriano Panatta, Corrado Barazzutti, Paolo Bertolucci, Tonino Zugarelli and Nicola Pietrangeli of winning the Davis Cup in 1976, against Pinochet’s very strong team from Chile.
One team: the series
The operation of Una team is defined as brilliant, awaited and with a pinch of madness. The results obtained by Procacci are masterful, not only for sports enthusiasts, but also for the common spectator.
It is brilliant because the docuseries tells everything: the celebration of an unexpected historical milestone, the sporting epic, the Italian and world political history of the twentieth century, the dormant and evident conflict. It also narrates the deep connection between very different human characters on and off the tennis court.
It is expected because no one had yet tried to narrate this sports page and the 1976 Davis Cup has been waiting patiently for its turn for 45 years.
As for the pinch of madness: we know well that the protagonists of this story weren’t always on peaceful terms with each other. They quarreled with each other then, and continue to do so today.
In addition, the series shows the human side of sport and is probably the one that most engages the viewer.
Procacci interviewed the five protagonists separately and then put their statements together in such a way as to create a spectacular and hilarious exchange between them, made up of elegant strokes and feet of intelligence, sudden crosses and cunning short balls. He allowed Panatta and his associates to contradict each other, to make fun of each other from a distance, each of them to reconstruct the events of that time in his own way. He allowed them to stage friendship, conflicts, the deep bond made of esteem and respect on their own.
