Here is our review of Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 4, perhaps the weakest of any we’ve seen so far

Continue our weekly appointment with the review of Obi-Wan Kenobi, the acclaimed Disney + event series. Now in its fourth episode, the series shows maybe the first weaknesses and it certainly touches the lowest moment so far. The plot continues, but the great emotions felt in the first three episodes seem to fade, if not for a few moments at the beginning of the episode. Superfluous episode | Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 4 review
One of the most serious problems of this fourth installment is its almost useless for the purposes of the plot. Episode 3 ended with Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) and Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen) fighting over Mapuzo and Reva (Moses Ingram) kidnapping Leia. In this episode 4 we therefore follow the protagonist, helped again by Tala (Indira Varma), in a mission to recover the little princess of Aldeeran. That’s all. Nothing else noteworthy happens within the just over 30 minutes of episode 4. That represents a major setback during the series, which up to now had confirmed itself at a high quality level and an all in all compelling plot. After watching the fourth episode you get the feeling of having wasted an opportunity to further develop the story and its characters. It seemed to be in front of an episode of The Clone Wars, which used to tell a single mission of the army of the Republic, which often featured Obi-Wan Kenobi. This approach is not new to the new series of the Star Wars universe, so much so that many of the episodes of The Mandalorian, especially of the first season, they can be circumscribed as far as their plot is concerned. Obi-Wan Kenobi’s fourth episode drew heavily on these examples.
The thriller without the thriller
Okay, let’s accept for a moment the fact that we’re watching a completely self-contained, completely plot-centric episode. However, a second major problem arises. This episode 4 is meant to be in every way a gripping spy story, in which a hostage must be rescued from one of the most dangerous places in the galaxy. What we see instead is Obi-Wan Kenobi, who should be our 007, wanders almost undisturbed through the corridors of the imperial base while Tala, our Q, guides him from the other almost without encountering resistance. This leaves the viewerwho in any case knows that both Obi-Wan and Leia will survive the end of the series, without any suspense, without fearing even for a second that our heroes are in danger. The only victim is a pilot that we see yes and no for two minutes at the beginning of the episode: nice try, Lucasfilm.
Conclusions
The bitterness in the mouth remains, there is no question. Knowing who Obi-Wan Kenobi is consisting of only 6 episodes and probably won’t see a second season, the fact that a sixth of the series was devoted to a single mission that presented few surprises and brought the plot exactly one episode back is disappointing. The producers decided on an approach à la The Clone Wars, in which the mission was the main focus of the single episode, detaching the attention from the macrotrama of the series. In addition to this, they did not give suspense or emotions as in the other episodes, letting the episode flow smoothly and resolve itself in a too simplistic way. In a product like Obi-Wan Kenobi it is not acceptable. From a technical point of view, the episode does not differ from the others but, as I have already pointed out, the problems are quite different. We are faced with one serious wasted opportunity.
