Today, the AMD company unveiled the next generation processor, namely the AMD Granite Ridge

AMD in its presentation of the Financial Analyst Day 2022 announced the codename for the second generation of processors, which is “Granite Ridge”. Successor of the Ryzen 7000 “Raphael”the next generation “Granite Ridge” processor will incorporate the microarchitecture of the CPU “Zen 5”. It will have its own CPU complex dies (CCD) built on the fabrication node of the silicon at 4 nm.
“Zen 5” will feature several entry-level designs, including a redesigned front-end with greater parallelism, which should indicate a very large execution phase. The architecture may also incorporate performance improvements AI/ML since AMD draws on Xilinx IP to add more fixed function hardware to support the AI / ML capabilities of its processors.
AMD Granite Ridge technical details
The “Zen 5” microarchitecture makes its debut as a client with Ryzen “Granite Ridge” and as a server with EPYC “Turin”. It is speculated that AMD could give “Torino” a round of increases in the number of CPU cores, while maintaining the same SP5 infrastructure. This means we could see Smaller CCDs or a number of higher core for CCD with “Zen 5”. Just like “Raphael”, the next-generation “Granite Ridge” will be a series of high-core desktop processors that will feature aiGPU functional which is good enough for desktop / productivity, although not for gaming. AMD has confirmed that it does not see “Raphael” as an APU and that its definition of “APU” is a processor with a large iGPU capable of playing. The company’s next APU will be “Phoenix Point”.
Phoenix Point
Phoenix Point silicon has been making rumors for a couple of months. It is said to be a monolithic die built on TSMC N5 (5 nm)equipped with a CCX “Zen 4”. A powerful iGPU based on graphical architecture RDNA3 new generation, memory DDR5 and maybe PCI-Express Gen 5. silicon could make its debut first as a mobile processor, followed by a desktop product in the AM5 package. Since the Financial Analyst Day presentation, we haven’t picked up AMD bringing “Rembrandt” to AM5. But something like this cannot be ruled out for the entry / mainstream Ryzen 3 and Ryzen 5 segments. “Rembrandt” uses an old one CCX “Zen 3+”.
“Phoenix Point” integrates what AMD calls a AIE (AI inference accelerator), which may be the much-discussed hardware accelerator component the company hinted at. AIE and Infinity Fabric come together to form XDNA, Xilinx’s first AI-accelerated FPGA architecture, following its acquisition by AMD. XDNA will be found not only in client chips such as “Phoenix Point”, but also in server processors such as “Torino” and super-scalar compute processors based on CDNA3. The successor to “Phoenix Point” will be “Strix Point”, which may see core integration CPU “Zen 5”and’Faster RDNA3 iGPU, XDNA AIE and more. “Strix Point” is scheduled for 2023-24.
