On August 24 it will be released in Italian cinemas Crimes of the future, the latest effort by Canadian director David Cronenberg. Waiting to see his new film at the cinema, we can retrace his entire cinematography thanks to a dedicated marathon, which will be staged from 18 to 23 August in three selected cinemas in Rome, Milan and Turin.

David Cronenberg: the marathon to recover his films

The Quattro Fontane cinema in Rome, the Anteo Palazzo del Cinema in Milan and the Ambrosio in Turin will be the setting for this eagerly awaited marathon, which will stage the best of the filmography of the “body horror” director. This review contains many of the Canadian filmmaker’s best films, screened in the original version with subtitles.

The marathon includes some, therefore, of Cronenberg’s most famous films. Between these Rabid – Thirst for blood, 1976 film, which became a cult, in which a young girl turns into a bloodthirsty vampire after a skin graft. Space then a Crush, inspired by a novel by JG Ballard that sees survivors of a car accident develop a sadomasochistic drive. We then Brood- The evil broodhorror body set in a horror clinic, Scannersthe story of two individuals with telepathic powers, e Videodromea powerful metaphor of the television civilization of the 1980s presented as an immense mass media hallucination.

The marathon continues with The flya film also famous for the presence of a great actor like Jeff Goldblum and The naked meal, inspired by the novel of the same name by William S. Burroughs. Then we have the noir thriller with Viggo Mortensen A History of Violence e A Dangerous Method with its stellar cast still composed of the actor who gave the face of Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings and with him Michael Fassbender and Keira Knightley. Finally, the marathon ends with The promise of the murderer, starring again by Mortensen with Naomi Watts and Vincent Castel, and with Maps to the Stars, heavy criticism of the film industry, which earned Julianne Moore La Palma in Cannes as best actress.
