FUJIFILM introduces the X-H2, the X Series mirrorless digital camera, a range renowned for outstanding image quality in both photos and videos, featuring Fujifilm’s proprietary color reproduction technology.
The new FUJIFILM X-H2 features the new 40.2MP back-illuminated X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor and the high-speed X-Processor 5. This is the new flagship model that boasts the highest resolution in the history of the X Series, both for photography and for the video recording function, while becoming the first APS-C camera in the world to enable internal recording in Apple format. ProRes 8K / 30P.
The image quality enhancement provided by the new sensor is complemented by advanced features to enhance visual expressions including the minimum standard ISO sensitivity of ISO125, the maximum shutter speed of 1 / 180,000 second with electronic shutter and the PIXEL SHIFT MULTI SHOT to increase the resolution of the image.
The mirrorless also offers functions and interfaces that make shooting easier, such as subject-detection AF based on Deep Learning technology that automatically recognizes and tracks a wider range of subjects such as animals and birdsfive-axis In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS) image stabilization with up to seven stops of compensation, a 5.76 million pixel EVF with 0.8x magnification, and a memory card slot compatible with CFexpressTM Type B. All these features allow users to fully enjoy the X-H2’s high image quality in a variety of situations.
The flagship “XH” series now consists of two flagship models: in addition to the high-speed FUJIFILM X-H2S model, the high-resolution X-H2 model is added with this launch. The X-H2S excels at shooting moving subjects, while the X-H2 offers exceptional image quality that transcends the normal quality limit of the APS-C format. Thanks to these two flagship models, FUJIFILM will be able to satisfy all the shooting needs of professional photographers and videomakers.
FUJIFILM X-H2: Technical Specifications
The X-H2 features the all-new 40.2MP back-illuminated X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor. This high resolution sensor has an improved image processing algorithm for higher image resolution without compromising the S / N level, producing stunning image quality. It also has an improved pixel structure to efficiently accommodate more light, allowing for a standard sensitivity of ISO125, rather than as an extended option. This is particularly advantageous when shooting outdoors in broad daylight or to take advantage of the large aperture of the bright lenses and thus produce a soft bokeh effect.
Thanks to the integration of the new sensor, 8K movies at 30P in 4: 2: 2 10-bit color can be recorded internally. X-H2 has a heat dissipation design identical to X-H2S, to allow recording of 8K / 30P video for approximately 160 minutes, making 8K video a real and practical alternative. In addition, it supports 8K over-sampling to produce high-quality 4K video, making the most of the high-resolution sensor to record 4K video with higher image resolution.
X-H2 supports three Apple ProRes codecs; ProRes 422 HQ, ProRes 422 and ProRes 422 LT. During ProRes recording, X-H2 also supports proxy recording in ProRes 422 Proxy format. This reduces the 8K video editing workload and streamlines the overall workflow from shooting to post-production.
Also very interesting is the digital zoom function that uses the 40.2 MP sensor to offer digital zoom up to 2x with little or no loss of resolution when recording videos in 4K, even when using a focal lens. fixed. With the XF18-120mmF4 LM PZ WR it allows you to double the range and seamlessly switch to the digital zoom function when the lens reaches its maximum focal length.
Hardware and workflow that support users’ content creation experience
An integrated 5-axis image stabilization system, made possible by the X-Processor 5 and a detection control function, provides up to seven stops of compensation. This powerful feature gives users the freedom to free-hand grip in conditions that previously would have required support, such as in low light conditions. In addition, the built-in image stabilization function (IBIS) allows the image sensor to be moved with high precision, making it possible to integrate the multi-shot pixel-shift function on the X-H2.
There is a high-magnification and high-definition EVF viewfinder with 5.76 million pixels and 0.8x magnification. It boasts a smooth frame refresh rate of approx. 120 fps and a significant improvement in parallax control and distortion that typically occur when the eye position is shifted while using the viewfinder. All this ensures exceptional visual comfort.
FUJIFILM X-H2: price and availability date
