Announced at WWDC 2022, Apple Pay Later will allow users to pay in installments simply by choosing the option in the Wallet App when making payments. A service that should have arrived by the end of the year, but which seems to have been postponed to spring 2023 con iOS 16.4.
Apple Pay Later postponed to 2023
As reported by Mark Gurman Bloomberg, there’s a good reason the Cupertino company’s new service will be delayed until the end of the new operating system’s cycle. “IOS 16 was released on September 12 and Apple Pay Later has not been seen – he writes in his newsletter Power On-. The company did not make any major fuss or revelations about the delay ”. And then he adds: “This leads me to believe that the company is not entirely certain when it will be ready for launch. It’s possible the feature won’t arrive until iOS 16.4 in the spring. I felt that there were quite significant technical and engineering challenges in the implementation of the service, which led to delays ”.
Still, it is quite evident that this service will be an attractive addition to US customers, as it will have zero interest e no commission. The same company defines it as “a simple and safe way to divide the cost of an Apple Pay purchase into four equal payments spread over six weeks, without interest and without commissions of any kind. Integrated into Wallet and designed with users’ financial health in mind, it makes it easy to view, track and refund Apple Pay Later payments within Wallet. Users can request it when they check out with Apple Pay or in Wallet ”. And it is “available wherever Apple Pay is accepted online or in-app, using the Mastercard network”.
