Create advertising in the sky using satellites is a futuristic project on which the team of scientists of Skoltech he was born in MIPT has been working for some time. The idea is to take advantage of one constellation of satellites to create commercials in the night sky.
To achieve this, satellites may be able to reflect sunlight, covering a very large area and making the business of “satellite” advertising particularly interesting in the future. The study involves the construction of 50 units of cubesat in 12U format with reduced dimensions (20 x 20 x 34 cm) capable of orbiting more than 500 kilometers from the Earth.
Shamil Biktimirov, a research trainee at Skoltech’s engineering center points out, “We have been studying some of the more technical aspects of space advertising for some time. This time we have looked at the economic side of things and, as unrealistic as it may seem, we demonstrate that space advertising based on 50 or more small satellites flying in formation can be economically viable. “
