Let’s see of present the main rules to follow when buying an electric scooter. We will refer to the decree of the Ministry of Infrastructure, published in the Official Gazette on August 18, 2022.
Electric scooter: what are the new rules to follow?
First of all you need to know that all the specimens sold in our country starting from 30 September 2022 they must comply with these rules. There is time for models already sold until January 1, 2024 for adjustments. If you buy online outside of Italy, make sure that all the required features are present.
Recall an electric scooter can only be driven by those over 14 years old. Furthermore for minors it is mandatory to use a helmet, while for adults it is optional, but we recommend it because by now the scooters reach quite high speeds and the helmet can save lives. The new rules on headlights and direction indicators
It will be mandatory to have solid yellow or white front lights and a red one at the rear which must be turned on after sunset. The direction indicators they must be amber and flash with a frequency between 1 and 2 Hertz and a pulse duration greater than 0.3 seconds. They will be installed both front and back, at a height between 150 and 1400 mm.

Power and size
The maximum power can be 0.5 kW (about 0.68 hp) and the maximum dimensions of 2,000 mm in length, 750 mm in width and 1500 mm in height are also fixed. The weight cannot exceed 40 kg. The minimum wheel size must be 8 inches.
