Canon presents EOS R6 Mark II, the latest model in the R range that raises the quality level of videos and photos
The Canon EOS R6 Mark II wants to extend the pioneering EOS R system, offering a speed of 40fps with electronic shutter, excellent AF in low light conditions and 6K RAW video on an internal 4K UHD 60p external recorder, all based on RF mount. The latest model of the range, dedicated to creative “hybrid”, EOS R6 Mark II leverages the founding principles of the RF mount and redefines the standards set by the EOS R6. The new camera raises the quality level of videos and photos thanks to the unique combination of unbeatable performance, exceptional speed, stability and professional shooting characteristics.
Using the same DIGIC X processor, central element of the EOS R5, EOS R6 and EOS-1D X Mark III models, along with the new 24.2 megapixel CMOS sensor, the EOS R6 Mark II supports the renowned next-generation Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology to achieve unmatched levels of speed and reliability.
The EOS R6 Mark II can track subjects by always keeping them in focus as they move around the frame. Using deep learning-trained artificial intelligence, the camera recognizes people, vehicles. You can choose the type of subject to identify using the menu or the new Auto option, depending on the variety of scenarios in which the photographer moves. With advanced eye tracking, you can specify which eye (left or right) to focus on, and if the eyes cannot be detected, the EOS R6 Mark II focuses on the framed face. Even if the person turns their back for a moment, the camera continues to follow their head and if the latter is no longer visible, they follow the body.
The EOS R6 Mark II boasts the best IS performance in the world, thanks to the Image Stabilizer up to 8 stops. Using the combined, optical and integrated IS, long exposure shots can be taken without the use of a tripod, resulting in razor-sharp results. Photographers can capture the mood of any occasion, focusing perfectly with light levels as low as -6.5 EV[iv] and managing to shoot with an ISO sensitivity up to 102,400.
Canon Eos R6 Mark II: the performance of the video department
Using the full width of the sensor, the EOS R6 Mark II is the only camera in its class[vii] to be able to shoot in 4K 60p UHD, being able to simultaneously count on the Dual Pixel CMOS AF focus. All 4K footage is created by oversampling the sensor’s 6K output for exceptional image quality. For independent filmmakers looking for even greater performance, the EOS R6 Mark II allows you to record in 6K RAW via the HDMI output on Atomos Ninja V +, in ProRes RAW. This ensures greater detail, as well as the ability to adjust parameters such as white balance in post-production.
Creatives can activate the 3 or 5 second video pre-record mode: video continuously scrolls through the standby camera allowing you to capture the action even before you hit the record button. Ideal for unmissable moments or unpredictable scenes.
The circuitry design of the EOS R6 Mark II has been improved to allow for longer recording times: over 40 minutes of oversampled 4K 60p recording or up to 6 hours of 4K 30p recording depending on the ambient temperature, memory card space and battery life.
Enabling content creators and filmmakers to meet the growing demand to produce both photos and videos of excellent quality, the innovative EOS R6 Mark II enables the creation of stunning slow motion movies with AF support using Full HD mode with speeds up to 179.82 fps. When shooting video, the False Color tool can be used as a guide for adjusting exposure, proving particularly useful in conditions that often lead to overexposure of bright areas. In addition to recording in HDR with PQ, the camera supports Canon Log 3, allowing creatives to create highly realistic video and take advantage of wide expressive possibilities, to offer viewers a truly immersive experience. In conjunction with compatible lenses, the EOS R6 Mark II uses focus breathing correction to produce a cinematic effect.
The camera body ensures the robustness you expect from a Canon product, being able to cope with the toughest climatic conditions. The high-resolution EVF with its 3.69 million dots offers a clear view when shooting or filming, thanks to the 120 fps refresh rate. In addition, the EOS R6 Mark II inherited the optical viewfinder simulation function from the EOS R3, offering a natural display with richly detailed shadows and bright areas, and good visibility in darker areas. The EOS R6 Mark II is also compatible with the LP-E6 batteries and battery grip already used on the EOS R6, but with the advantage of approximately 50% longer life through use of the LCD screen.
