Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales has just arrived on PC and in this review we will see how the title performed
It is November 12, 2020 when Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales arrives on the new Sony home console recently released. Two years later, the spider also arrives on PC, bringing with it the magic of Christmas in one of the most evocative cities ever. But how will he fare on our computer? To find out, we just have to start this one Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales PC review.
Brief recap to understand who Miles Morales is
As everyone knows, the original Spider-Man is Peter Parker, now known in all its guises thanks to the various cinematographic films released over the years. The multiverse is a concept of which we know frighteningly little and precisely in one of the realities present in the multiverse, Peter is accompanied by Miles Moralesa boy who had the same luck as the more famous Spider-Man.
Leaving aside the comic storyline, we will focus on what happened in the previous chapter and which saw the appearance of Miles. In more than one mission, the boy who later became Spider-Man helped Peter Parker, making their relationship more than just a partnership, so much so that at the end of the story Peter assumes the role of mentor for Miles. From here begins a training course which, in this chapter, will lead him to be the protector not just of Harlem, but of all of New York.
A Spider-Man swinging on the thread of a cobweb – Review Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales PC
The gameplay is the real hot spot of this new chapter that has now arrived on PC. Compared to the previous one it is noticeable a big step forward in the already well-developed mechanics. In fact, playing a video game has never been so much fun, especially during the various trips that will make us forget, and almost hate, fast travel.
Shifting has been slightly improved, especially in the more open areas, characterized by only trees where we often found ourselves walking rather than swinging. There will therefore be no dead times and it will be possible get to the other side of town (and what a city!) in a very short time.
In addition to the mobility, we also found the management of side missions interesting, which mainly takes place via the ASMQ appwhere citizens can directly request the intervention of Miles. These, however, will not occupy us for long and later they will also become repetitive and boring. The same is also true for secondary activities, such as the search for time capsules, the stocks e the audio samples which attract little and turn out to be somewhat repetitive.
Electrifying New Powers – Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales PC Review
The first difference with Peter comes from ability to use new powersalso called Venom. Thanks to these we will be able to destroy the weapons of our opponents, block their use and stun them for a short time. Also, these powers they will also be used in some environmental puzzles to activate generators, overload others, and so on.
Contrary to what one might expect, however, there are no skill trees for these powers. In fact, all the moves will be unlockable as we continue in the storyexcept for some very small buffs that will be obtained through the skill points acquired every time we level up.
Another important skill that characterizes Miles Morales is that of the concealment. Thanks to this it will be possible disappear in front of enemies, opening up the game to stealth mechanics. At low levels, however, this power is practically useless, as the AI is enormously lacking in intelligence, making concealment practically useless. For a good level of challenge, with the possibility of being able to make the most of all of Miles’ powers, it will be necessary to select the higher difficulty levels.
A story at times trivial – Review Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales PC
Therefore, although there are important changes made from a gameplay point of view, the main story can be considered good. One would have expected one more incisive characterization, perhaps with details that made Miles slightly different from Peter Parker. Often indeed we forget who is hiding under the mask.
The desire of the Insomniac developers to create a deep story with important twists and turns is all there, pity that many of these are very predictable. The appearance of each character already foreshadows what will happen shortly thereafter, making the story very predictable.
But how does it run on PC? – Review Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales PC
We have probably reached the crucial point of this review, or how the title runs on PC. Before continuing, it seems mandatory to point out that we tested the title on a computer that mounts a processor inside AMD Ryzen 3900Xa Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, 16 GB in RAM and operating system Windows 11 a 64 bit. Quite high parameters, although not sufficient to run the game in 4K at 60 fps with ray tracing active.
Despite this, however, we had a fairly fluid experience, even if not with maximum graphics. While the level design is similar to that of Spider-Man, many elements are taken from there, we’ve noticed an improved and enriched experience. All of this turns into a New York to take your breath away in every alley, at least while we’re airborne. On the ground, unfortunately, we can see the same lack of character as pawns that we had already noticed in the previous title.
So are we talking about a very valid title even if not really innovative? Partly yes and partly no. Although there are some improvements, Stability leaves a bit to be desired. In fact, we have often noticed quite important frame drops, but which actually remained an end in itself. Other than these though we ran into real bugs that crashed the game. One of them was even caused by a costume unlocked by completing a particular mission. In short, not exactly a very good optimization job by the developers.
…not fully exploited
We have reached the end of this review regarding the PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and therefore the time has come to sum up a bit. The title is presented in a guise very similar to that of Marvel’s Spider-Man, although it improves some parameters, giving a graphic impact and gameplay of great depth. The improvements are therefore there and it would be useless to deny it.
However, this comes up against a sgood, but quite predictable story and various stability issues, crowned with various rather serious bugs. The whole points to one care in careless optimization by the developers. To sweeten it all comes a truly phenomenal graphicswhich gives us perhaps one of the most beautiful settings that a video game could wish for: New York in Christmas version.
Apart from these small problems, the gameplay turns out to be quite frantic, with well-balanced and manageable clashes thanks above all to the new skills possessed by Miles Morales. We will then be able to live an experience of a high standard if we are willing to compromise with some minor flaws.
For this review regarding the PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales that’s all. We remind you that the game is available at recommended price of €49.99.
