The game is fresh from publication in Japan, the only territory where it was missing. An excuse like any other to dedicate a little extra space to this great little “miracle in Milan”. And the term “space” is not here by chance.

The presence of hybrid worlds in Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Anno Domini 2017, in hindsight was the obvious symptom of making the most of the opportunity to work with a mustache, more unique than rare. And the sequel lays the bare once again reverential respect that the ex-NRUs (Ugo “Surgo” Laviano in primis, as game designer) taken under the wing of Davide Soliani still try today for the Kingdom of Mushrooms. The ambition, visible in the plot on a cosmic scale, is mirrored in the gameplay with the abandonment of the grid and the inclusion of many more variables to combine at will.
The level design, free from the constraints of the battlefield in the adventure, benefits greatly from the schism between the overworld and the combat zone. In addition to a camera that can be rotated at will, in fact, secondary quests, deeper dialogues, a less caricatured (and, for the detractors of the Rabbids, more tolerable) use of bunnies and in general a much more epic storyline. Not that the humor fails; the game takes itself seriously enough. And, ironically, just enough to take the player more seriously. We’re no longer in the Odyssey-waiting spin-off realm; it is played equally of the same muses who, for years, lovingly illuminated the path of editors who discovered themselves as novel Italian-style Sakurai, consecrated with a triumph to Game Awards 2022 with the Strategy Game of the Year crown.
