Today we will talk about the Styles for Capture One Pro, in this review we will discover the “Beyond Collection” package. We will analyze what this software package offers and how it can be used in the development of your photographs

Capture One is a reference software in the world of photo editing. Famous above all for its color management, in the 20 Pro version new creative heights have been reached thanks to the functions and improvements introduced that make the software even more complete than the previous version (12).

If you want to expand the functions of the software, several additional packages are available, which we have already reviewed in the past. Continuing on this line today we talk about Beyond Collection, the collection of Beyond Film Style Pack and Beyond B&W Style Pack.

What does it offer? | Capture One Pro Styles: Beyond Collection review

Thanks to Beyond Collection it is possible to give an analogue look to your photography both in color and in black and white. Clearly they can be combined with other Styles, especially Spectrum, but their main use is to give a particular mood to the photos. To the price of 89 €, Beyond Collection, offers 9 presets to give an analog style to photographs. You can also buy only the color package (Beyond Film Style Pack) or just the black and white package (Beyond B&W Style Pack).

Phase One has always been very attentive to color correction in its products and in the past has proposed various solutions to simulate the rendering of analog even in digital. This new collection extends that idea and makes it more specific. In fact Beyond Collection ha due anime. The first concerns Beyond Film Style Pack where Phase One’s research is all about offering an experience that recalls the most popular films of the past. The second soul is Beyond B&W Style Pack, the greediest package in our opinion, which brings the look of silver films digitally (without performing very complex post-productions).

Beyond Film Style Pack

In this package we will find four Styles divided in turn into three intensities: F200 – F400 – K100 – K200. Each of them corresponds to the yield of a different Fujifilm or Kodak emulsion. Let’s take a photo as a reference and observe how the same photo totally changes from one step to another.

The differences in this photo are clearly visible in the color transitions, especially on the greens and shades visible on the top of the mountain. A keen eye will also notice the differences in the central area of the frame where the perception of depth of the photo changes. Beyond Film Style Pack totally changes the colors involved, and directly recalls the result that we would have obtained by exposing in analogue. Still not convinced? In every shot the change of colors rooted in the sky is evident, but above all on the skin tones and on the car. The examples posted here are shots taken with X-T4 and post produced with some of the film simulations offered by Fujifilm. Despite the very valid starting point, which remembers the yield of the analog, the Beyond Film Style Pack gives the shot an edge. This advantage, already evident in these examples, becomes even more evident if the manufacturer of your camera does not offer film simulations of its own. By selecting the intensity of the preset we can then also choose how impactful the color proposed by the same on the shot must be.

Beyond B&W Style Pack

Moving on to black and white, the differences become more subtle, but they will certainly not escape those who are used to shooting in black and white. In fact, with Beyond B&W Style Pack, we have the possibility of upset the reading of the light of our photo with a simple click.

Also in this case we started from the very valid basis offered by Fujifilm’s ACROS film simulation on X-T4, and once again Beyond B&W Style Pack manages to offer something more to our photographs in terms of reading the light, but above all of simplicity: in a click the photo changes its soul. Also in this case by selecting the intensity of the preset we can then also choose how impactful the preset must be on the shot.

The grain of the film | Capture One Pro Styles: Beyond Collection review

If until now we have focused only on color and on the reading of luminance, now we deepen what was one of the fundamental aspects of analog photography: the grain. With Beyond Collection we have simulations of the most famous types of grain of the analog period available: Harsh, Silver, Soft, Tabular. The latter are available in two strengths. Here are some examples:

A fully analogue look achieved effortlessly. However, the possibilities are not limited only to this: with Capture One Pro 20 we could in fact apply the presets on the individual levels to establish their intensity even more accurately.

Tool absolutely not to be missed, Beyond Collection brings the essence of analogue photography to digital with a few simple clicks. A truly remarkable merit that will make everyone happy from the amateur, perhaps not an expert in post production, to the professional who has to post produce a huge flow of shots. Excellent product that we recommend no ifs and buts if you are looking for an analogue look for your photographs.
