There is great expectation for the debut of the TV series of The Last of Us, a television transposition of the homonymous game developed by Naughty Dog for PlayStation consoles. This time it was the co-president of Naughty Dog who spoke, Neil Druckmanwho has very high expectations of the HBO-produced show.
Interviewed by the microphones of the New Yorker (via Eurogamer), Druckmann said he hoped the show “end the curse of video games”. The reference is to the fact that many television adaptations of popular video games often end up disappointing. Asked for an opinion on the matter, Druckman said:
“Sometimes adaptations don’t work because the source material isn’t strong enough. Sometimes they don’t work because the people who make it don’t understand the source material.” Druckmann also revealed that his next game project will be “structured just like a TV show.”
Meanwhile Craig Mazin the writer of the series of The Last of Us, said:
“In Skyrim I love the ability to just wander around and do nothing, but it’s not televised. In The Last of Us instead everything revolves around the story. The story comes first.”
