Plot
The series created by Eric Garciafollows the adventures of a gang of robbers, coordinated by the expert Leo Pap (Giancarlo Esposito), in an attempt to grab the loot kept in a United States vault, considered impossible to break into. The story spans a full 25 years, from the early planning stages, up to six months after the heist. Will the gang succeed in doing so?
The series is inspired by a true story that happened during Hurricane Sandy in 2012, when someone managed to make 70 billion dollars in bonds vanish into thin air from an underground Wall Street vault.
Kaleidoscope and episode order
Certainly, there are many series that talk about robberies, but then what makes Kaleidoscope one innovative series? The first episode explains it, entitled “Nero“, lasting only 50 seconds. Each episode is a piece of the plot, it’s up to the viewer to choose which piece to see before and which after. Each episode has the title of a color, of which “Black” is precisely the introductiontherefore to be looked at first and “White” is instead the day of the robbery. Netflix itself confessed:
The order in which the viewer will watch the episodes will influence their perspective on the story, the characters and the questions and answers at the center of the heist.
Following the logic of leaving “Black” first and “White” last, Vulture calculated the existence of well 5,040 possible combinations, in which to be able to face the series. For those who have decided to also mix “White” between the episodes, that’s it the possibilities become 40,320.
