Bad news for Madonna fans, the biopic dedicated to the singer has in fact been, at least temporarily, suspended. Let’s find out why
It was supposed to be a project directed by Madonna herself, with the support of Universal Pictures, the one that was supposed to tell the life of the singer; instead something went wrong. The biopic has in fact been suspended. Everything had already started, Madonna was already starting to write some drafts, with the help of Diablo Cody e Erin Cressida Wilsonwhile you were already thinking about Julia Garner, famous for the miniseries Inventing Anna (2022) and Ozark (2017-2022) for the role of the pop star. Some rumors claim that too Julia Fox was in talks to join the cast, in the role of Debi Mazar, a friend of the singer. Madonna herself had focused on what viewers should have expected from her project:
The focus of the film will be the music. She has allowed me to go on, art has kept me alive. There are so many unknown and inspiring stories and no one can tell them better than me.
Yet something went wrong. What are the reasons for this cancellation?
Why was the biopic suspended?
Probably the main reason for the shelving of the biopic is to be found in a new world tour that Madonna has recently announced, the Celebration Tour. The new concerts, which will take place in 35 cities, will start on July 15 and will touch, among others, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Detroit, Denver and Cleveland. From October 14, the tour will cross the ocean, to arrive in 11 other European cities. The singer will also land in Italy, more precisely at the Mediolanum Forum in Assago, on 23 and 25 November 2023.
This would therefore seem to be the reason why the project was suspended, although some difficulties in implementing it are not excluded. However, all is not lost. In fact, it would seem that Madonna has suspended the biopic just to better focus on the tour, but it is not excluded that he may take it up again in the future. Certainly the waiting times will not be short, but we just have to wait for any developments, which we will not forget to give you.
