Two generations of smartphones to control: Samsung Galaxy S23 vs S22 – what are the differences between the top of the range of today and yesterday? Samsung just announced the new trio of smartphones (S23 standard, Plus and Ultra), which confirm some things that we appreciated last year but with several novelties that could play an important role. Here is a brief comparison between the smartphones of 2022 and those of 2023.
Samsung Galaxy S23 vs S22, top of the range in comparison
To make the comparison easier, we’ll list the differences by model: Samsung Galaxy S22 vs 23, S22+ vs S23+ e S22 Ultra vs S23 Ultra. Something particularly useful for this last model, very different from the rest of the trio. Samsung has merged two ranges of smartphones together in its flagship, with the Ultra model following the legacy of the old Notes: from S Pen support to style.
Without further ado: off to the comparison.
Samsung Galaxy S23 vs S22: what are the differences?
The most obvious difference can only concern the design: how do you recognize an S22 and distinguish it from the new S23? Although the lines have remained almost unchanged, you can distinguish them because on the back of the smartphone the raised rectangle in the camera area disappears: in the new model you will see only three sensors emerging from the body. Something that last year only the Ultra had, but this year the cutout is more marked and with a metallic finish.
The front remains the same, with a 6.1-inch screen, even if the materials change: instead of Gorilla Glass Victus+ you find Corning Gorilla Glass 2which should be more resistant. Furthermore, Samsung explained that it has increased the percentage of recycled materials by 20%.
The dimensions change by millimeters (indeed, in some cases fractions) and the weight remains unchanged. The colors are Phantom Black, Cream, Green e Lavender.
Inside, we find a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in a special overclocked version for the new Galaxy, instead of Samsung’s Exynos chip seen in the S22. It should consume less and be slightly faster.
The camera sensors have the same megapixel count, but should increase the photo quality (we will publish a review soon to remove that conditional). You will therefore still have a main sensor from 50 megapixels with faster focusinga and optical stabilization, along with a 12 megapixel 120° ultra-wide angle and 10 megapixel and 3x telephoto. Instead, the selfie camera goes up from 10 to 12 megapixels.

Instead, the battery grows, something excellent considering that it does not increase the weight: we go from 3700 mAh to 4500 mAh. Otherwise, the smartphone remains almost the same. However, the price rises, Galaxy S22 started from 879 euros and now reaches 979 euros.
Plus models
Everything when we have seen for the standard model remains valid in the comparison between Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus vs Galaxy S22 Plus: the main difference between the two smartphones is the larger screen diagonal of 6.6 inches. Also, this model does not have the 128GB memory cut.
Even here they improve the cameras and change the chip. But the main difference we see in the battery, which passes da 3.900mAh a 4.700mAh. Also in this case, however, the price increases, from 1079 euros to 1229 euros.
Galaxy S23 Ultra vs Galaxy S22 Ultra
The design of the new Ultra remains almost identical to that of last year, although an expert eye could see some differences in the detachment of the photographic sensors on the body. Otherwise, the same design remains – including the convenient slot for the S Pen.
New processor also in this case, which will be used above all to manage the new photographic capabilities of Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. In fact, compared to last year we find a 200MP main sensor, compared to last year’s already very many 108MPs. The rest of the excellent photographic sector remains similar in the megapixels and in the technical aspects. Even if the new processor could lead to different results during shooting. Especially low light photographs should improve. And comes ai support video 8K con 30 fps (l’anno scoros a 24fps).
The battery remains instead of 5.000mAh. The price goes up: from a base of 1279 euros to 1479 euros, also due to the fact that the 128GB cut is missing.
These are the main differences that emerge from the comparison between Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S23, with Samsung that seems to have decided to change its winning formula in a progressive and non-revolutionary way.
