Meta helped launch a new platform called Take It Down, which aims to prevent intimate photos of minors from being disseminated online. Created by National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), Take It Down is a free service globally where users under the age of 18 (or their parents) can stop “online sharing of nude, partially nude, or sexually explicit images or videos” .
The service can also be used by adults to request the removal of visual content taken or filmed when they were minors.

Take It Down will assign a unique hash value to each piece of content. This will be used for identify any copies of the image, delete them and prevent the dissemination of such material in the future. The platform was developed with the direct support of Meta which has financially supported by NCMEC. The Mark Zuckerberg-owned giant also has iintegrated the service on its social networks Facebook and Instagramso that users can access them easily and intuitively.
It is not the first time that Meta has taken the side of the victims of private image disclosures. In December 2021 the company openly supported the lotta al revenge porn, in association with StopNCII. Last year, Meta also announced new measures to protect teenagers from network dangersintroducing default settings on their social networks for the privacy and security of the accounts.
