The monthly subscription fee for the live TV streaming service has increased. In a notice to customers, YouTube stated that the increase is necessary to cover the growing costs of the contents. Also, it wants to invest more in the service.
While the YouTube TV price hike may be frustrating for subscribers, it’s a necessary step to ensure the company can continue to provide the best TV service possible. But here’s what it means for you and for current and prospective YouTube TV subscribers.
The price of the basic YouTube TV plan has increased by $8, bringing the new monthly cost from $64.99 to $72.99 in the United States. This is an increase of 12.3%.
The new price is in effect for new subscribers from 16 March 2023. Existing subscribers will see the price increase on their first monthly bill starting April 18.
And if you’re wondering if YouTube will include additional benefits with this price increase, the answer is no. Users will continue to receive the same benefits as before.
What does the YouTube TV membership offer?
The basic plan gives subscribers access to over 100 live channels, such as the local channels of ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC. It also includes a cloud-based DVR with unlimited storage, special features like Key Plays View, the ability to create up to six home accounts, and three simultaneous streams.

Among the new arrivals there will certainly be features that will lead YouTube towards a more televised approach. Indeed, Mohan declared that “we will bring the best of YouTube to your living room”. We can therefore expect TV streaming content, such as dedicated sporting and original events.
The platform will also point to capitalize on the world of gaming and esports, who currently find their favorite home on Twitch. The CEO explained that video game content has brought “over two trillion views” to the platform.
If the parent company, Google, has already announced Bard, YouTube will also implement new features powered by AI. Mohan stated that these “will allow to broaden the narrative aspect and increase the production value”.
