Amazon continues to cut projects and reduce its workforce: among the last cut there is also DPReview. The portal dedicated to the world of photography, in factwill officially end its activities after 25 years of online presence. The site had been bought by Amazon in 2007, operating independently and continuing to test all the main products of the photographic sector.
Amazon officially shuts down DPReview
After its 2007 acquisition by Amazon, DPReview continued to operate independently, although its operations moved from London to Seattle over the years. The news announced in these hours took many fans by surprise.
Amazon, in fact, has chosen to close the DPReview portal which will not receive further updates starting from April 10, 2023. For a limited time, the portal will remain available in read-only mode.
Closing DPReview falls into a more articulated program of cuts by Amazon. The company already laid off more than 18,000 workers in January and most recently announced further cuts for 9,000 workers.
At the moment, there are still no confirmations regarding Amazon’s next moves. Of course, closing DPReview will leave its mark. The portal, in fact, has been an important point of reference in the photography sector for years. In the past, the site had also launched a store dedicated to photographic products.
